Should I Do A Coolant Flush

Should I Do A Coolant Flush

Should I Do A Coolant Flush? Another question we get asked is How Often Should I Do A Coolant Flush? When you buy a new vehicle, it may say that it has long life coolant or Lifetime Coolant. There really is no such thing as Lifetime Coolant. Your driving habits and what you use the vehicle for may make it necessary to have a Coolant Exchange performed on your vehicle. Depending on how you use your vehicle it may need a Coolant Exchange between 30,000 to 50,000 miles. One of the reasons a Coolant Exchange needs done is over time rust and deposits can build up in a cooling system because of the different kinds of metals in the cooling system. These deposits can plug up the small passageways in the engine and radiator when this happens the cooling system loses efficiency. You can do it yourself by opening the drain on the radiator if it has one or by taking the lower radiator hose off which makes a big mess. Either way you still will not get all the coolant out of the vehicle. The best wa ... read more

Why Does My 6.0 Have An Oil Cooler

Why Does My 6.0 Have An Oil Cooler

Why Does My 6.0 Have An Oil Cooler? Another Question we get is Where Is The Oil Cooler Located On A 6.0 Powerstroke? We will look at both questions as well as some other questions we get. First question Why Does My 6.0 Have An Oil Cooler the main reason it is there is because a diesel engine creates a lot of heat when it is working hard like pulling a loaded equipment trailer. The oil takes the heat away from the engine components and gets pushed through the Oil Cooler so that it can transfer the heat to coolant and then the Engine Coolant goes to the Radiator and from their heat gets transferred to the outside air and then begins the process all over again. This brings up an important point the Cooling System needs to be clean and have the proper coolant in the engine. The Oil Cooler has small passages for the coolant to run through id the cooling system is dirty or has rust in the system it will not be able to transfer heat properly. One of the first places that may start causing a p ... read more

Why Does My Truck Blow White Smoke

Why Does My Truck Blow White Smoke

Why Does My Truck Blow White Smoke? There are several reasons for Why Does My Truck Blow White Smoke that can make this happen. One of the reasons that we will talk about is a Failed EGR Cooler. What can happen over time is that the EGR Cooler can get plugged so bad that it cracks it by creating hotspots in the EGR Cooler. The EGR Cooler needs to be able to flow exhaust through the whole EGR Cooler not just around the outside edges. The carbon from the exhaust will plug the center of the EGR cooler making it lose its cooling capacity. Which in turn creates the hot spots when its under load and working. What you will notice on the first start of the day is that your truck will Blow White Smoke on startup and then clear up after several minutes. This is an indication of Can My EGR Cooler Leak. The only fix for a Leaking EGR Cooler is to replace it with a New EGR Cooler. I would also recommend a Coolant Exchange at this time. If you have any questions about your EGR Cooler or your experie ... read more
